With almost 20 years of expertise as an Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mark Shekhman has been helping patients who suffer from joint pain so that they can remain active and stay healthy. Dr. Shekhman comes to the Hartford community with extensive training at Internationally renowned medical programs for complex hip and knee orthopedic conditions.
After receiving his Bachelors of Science from the University of Western Ontario, Dr. Shekhman earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, ranked 4th in the world for Clinical Medicine by U.S. News and World Report. He completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and received additional elective training in hip replacement surgery at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital in Exeter, England. Devoting a special interest in disorders of the hip and knee Dr. Shekhman went on to complete a Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement at The Hospital for Special Surgery, Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.
Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Shekhman specializes in disorders of the hip and knee with a focus on same-day outpatient joint replacements, partial, total and complex joint replacement, and minimally invasive surgery including hip and knee arthroscopy. He is one of the few surgeons in the region with expertise in Birmingham Hip Resurfacing as well as anterior hip replacements.

Dr. Shekhman is a partner at Orthopedic Associates of Hartford and leads Hartford Hospital’s Bone and Joint Institute’s destination orthopedics initiative while part of the Joint Replacement Service Line devoted to process and quality improvement initiatives. He enjoys teaching orthopedic residents and in 2013, Dr. Shekhman was honored by the Arthritis Foundation for his contributions to the Orthopedic community.
He lives in the Hartford area with his wife, 3 rambunctious boys and 2 Labrador Retrievers, and enjoys skiing, mountain biking and traveling.
Dr. Mark Shekhman sees patients in Orthopedic Associates of Hartford's Farmington, Glastonbury, and Rocky Hill offices, as well as seeing patients virtually.
